ELKHORN A Whitewater teen stabbed in the chest and back Tuesday night remained hospitalized this morning, and two roommates suspected of stabbing him and a 16-year-old are in custody.
Rigoberto Jimenez Perez, 18, this morning remained in good condition at Fort Atkinson Memorial Hospital.
The 16-year-old suffered stab wounds and bruises on his face was treated and released at the hospital emergency room.
The men suspected in the assaults—Jesus Hernandez Vargas, 25, and Orlando Loyo Montes, 26—remained locked in the Walworth County Jail this morning on $10,000 cash bail.
The four live in a duplex at 214 S. Esterly St., Whitewater, where officers at about 7 p.m. Tuesday responded for a reported dispute, Whitewater Police Chief James Coan said. After the officers left the home, the roommates continued arguing.
One suspect grabbed a large butcher knife and speared Jimenez Perez several times in the chest and back and then stabbed the 16-year-old boy in the thigh and upper back, Coan said.
The second suspect is accused of beating the 16-year-old boy, Coan said.
After the attack, the victims fled the duplex and went to a gas station on East Milwaukee Street near their home, Coan said.
Police went to the gas station at about 9:50 p.m.
The suspects also fled the duplex, Coan said, and Hernandez Vargas and Loyo Montes were arrested in a nearby backyard a short time later.
In court Thursday afternoon, Hernandez Vargas and Loyo Montes appeared on video from the nearby jail. Both men spoke to the judge through a Spanish-speaking interpreter.
"I didn't grab any knife," Loyo Montes said through his interpreter. "I didn't do anything."
Este Hart, with the Walworth County District Attorney's Office, told the judge the four roommates involved in the incident had lived in the duplex for a week. She said witnesses saw the attack, including men throwing kitchen pots at one another.
The attack remains under investigation, Coan said, and alcohol is suspected of being involved.
Hernandez Vargas and Loyo Montes face possible felony battery charges, and are expected to enter pleas after complaints are filed at a future date.

you say you are not racist, but do you not understand that by saying the things you are saying like, "living 20 people to a house, taking our jobs", that that IS racism? And as far as learning/understanding our language, English is one of the hardest languages to learn, heck, alot of people that were BORN here don't even understand and use the language correctly, even some people on this message board!!

I will have to agree with mymaro. I am not racist either but this is all ridiculous the interpiters for all of them, 20 to a house, jobs! what really gets me though is the schools they say they dont have enough teachers to teach kids, but you goto a coference and they have 3-4 teachers for each of them families to interpit for everyone. If your gonna live here speak/know/understand the language. your also right we have enough of our own problems to handle.

mymaro--you should seriously step back and see how absolutly DUMB you sound. First of all, they are not taking away high paying jobs from us, they are taking the back-breaking, no insurance, extremly low paying, horrible jobs that WE would not do! People like YOU are what make this country so screwed up, that think you are all high and mighty and that other people don't deserve a chance. Do you not realize that you yourself wouldn't be here if it weren't for immigration? Only Native Americans can truly say that they are born citizens of America!! Open your eyes!!!

"these people come into this country and just raise total havoc."
Ummm hello? I'm pretty sure Americans do the same thing in other countries too. There is no "perfect" race that acts in a "perfect" manner. People of all ages, sex, and race act violently.

Mymaro- You are right. I missed that line about the interpretor. It would take a person of your apparent mental aptitude to point that out so precisely. So scratch everything I said, except for the part about the 5th amendment and you having racist opinions based solely on stereotypes, which, in your rebuke you continue to hold on to.
Personally, I'm glad I just read the article wrong. Life is much harder when you're just wrong in general. While I'm thoroughly ashamed of my initial interpretation of the article (look a joke with a for of the word interpret) I'm glad the main point of my post is still intact. I think yourself and and Mytake4u would appreciate that a government budgeted for an interpretor if you were arrested in an area of the world where English was not the primary language. It is nice to know what legal authorities are saying. And while it may be an inconvenience, I don't think we can hold the suspects primary language against them when it comes to getting a fair legal proceding.

mymaro-- it doesn't sound racist it is. Characterizing an entire group of people based the actions of two is called stereotyping, a classic tool of racists. And, per the article, it does not say they are not American citizens. Also, mytake4u it is quite a leap to assume just because the individuals pictured above are Latino that they do not know or speak English. If they don't speak English, there is something called the 5th amendment in our country which offers us all Due Process; it only seems reasonable an interpreter is provided after arrest.

Listened to this on my scanner that night. Every available officer was called out to this and 3rd shift called in early. Rescue was so busy they had to call another town for back up in case of any emergencies. It's shocking that this happened in Whitewater. Glad everyone is ok and that the people that did this get what they deserve.
