Janesville Fire Department to try new tactics to prevent fire fatalities
Fire fatalities are rare in Janesville, and Janesville fire officials hope to use new tactics to prevent future tragedies.
Deputy Fire Chief Jim Jensen says the younger they can reach kids with the fire safety message, the more valuable it will be. He says kids will retain it, learn it and take it home to their parents or caregivers. Jensen says a lot of times kids are better at fire safety than adults. The fire department is discussing new efforts and new materials to use in daycare centers to target the young children.
A seven-year-old Janesville boy was killed in a fire last month.

Have there been any updates on 2 year old Joey also involved in the fire with his 7 year old brother? He's been in our thoughts and we had hoped the Gazette might get an update on his condition.
