Rockford man sentenced to nearly 32 years for Footville bank robbery
A Rockford man receives nearly 32 years in federal prison for his role in last November's Mid America Bank robbery in Footville.
36-year-old Matthew Evans entered the bank with three others. Each brandished weapons and wore a mask. Authorities found Evans four days later. During his escape, Evans had dropped a bandana in a backyard near Highway 81. The state crime lab tested DNA on the bandana and testified at trial that it matched Evans' DNA. The analyst testified that the probability that it was someone else's DNA was 1 in 41 trillion.
Evans' four co-defendants testified him at trial. Among other things, they all testified that he tried to get them to lie and say he wasn't involved in the bank robbery. US District Judge Barbara Crabb told Evans he is a "very dangerous person". He also has to repay $950 to the bank.
