Flood dampens summer parties
JANESVILLE The flood continues to displace city residents—this time, 57 individuals or groups that had rented pavilions.
Mike Williams, leisure services director, said in a memo to city council members that his department was forced to cancel pavilion reservations at Riverside and Traxler parks.
The city is rescheduling groups to alternative locations or dates through Labor Day.
Of the 57 reservations, staff was able to reschedule 27 groups to alternate locations or alternate dates; 26 groups have been refunded their fees, and four pavilion reservations are pending, Williams said.
The city also has been accommodating groups by using what staff calls the “Peace Tent.”
The tent has been used at Riverside Golf Course for golf outings and has been installed at Rockport Park.
The tent contains picnic tables for 100 people and has electric service.
The city rents the tent for $50 a day.
Six groups have relocated from a flooded park pavilion to the tent at Rockport Park.
“The rental groups have been very understanding and cooperative with this process,” Williams said.
