Almost 400 homeowners in Rock County have qualified for nearly $1 million in federal aid to repair damage from storms and floods, the Federal Emergency Management Agency reported.

The Rock County residents are among the more than 31,000 homeowners statewide whose residences have been inspected. Ninety-eight percent of homes with reported flood and/or storm damage have been inspected, and their owners have qualified for more than $54 million in federal disaster assistance, FEMA reported Friday.

As of Thursday, 398 Rock County homeowners had been deemed eligible for $997,334 in aid, the federal agency said.

In Walworth County, 115 homeowners qualified for $248,974 in aid. In Jefferson County, 532 homeowners qualified for $1.8 million, FEMA reported.

Rock County residents may visit New Life Assembly of God Church, 2416 N. Wright Road, Janesville, to receive help with applications and for information on federal and state disaster aid programs.

Walworth County residents can travel to Janesville or the Waukesha County Highway Operations Center, 164 Woodburn Road, Waukesha. In Jefferson County, the FEMA disaster recovery center is the UW Extension office, 864 Collins Road, Jefferson.

All the disaster recovery centers are open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

FEMA, Wisconsin Emergency Management and the federal Small Business Association urge Wisconsin individuals, families and business owners who live in disaster-declared counties and whose property was damaged by severe storms, tornadoes and/or flooding between June 5 and July 24 to apply for disaster-assistance grants and low-interest SBA loans.

Residents can register or update their information by calling the toll-free number, 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for those with speech or hearing impairment. Lines are open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Residents also may register online 24 hours a day until the Aug. 13 deadline at www.fema.gov.

Homeowners, renters and business owners can receive information about SBA disaster loans and obtain help with the application process by calling the SBA at 1-800-659-2955 or TTY 1-800-877-8339; by visiting the SBA Web site at www.sba.gov, or by talking to an SBA customer service representative at any disaster recovery center.
