Man drowns in a South Beloit quarry
SOUTH BELOIT, ILL. Over 20 stateline area fire departments assisted in a search and recovery operation following a drowning Wednesday night in South Beloit, Illinois.
The call for help came from a witness at a private quarry in the 2300 block of Shirland Avenue around 5:20 p.m.
A friend of the victim told authorities the 28 year old man knew how to swim, but struggled when he entered the water. At least one person on shore tried to help get the victim out of the water but was unsuccessful.
One of three cadaver dogs, brought to the scene, found the body shortly after 8:00 p.m. An autopsy is scheduled Thursday.
The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of relatives.
