Governor confirms Fitzpatrick to be judge

— Gov. Jim Doyle confirmed Tuesday that he will appoint Janesville attorney Michael Fitzpatrick to be the new judge for Rock County Court Branch 3.

Fitzpatrick will replace Judge Michael Byron, who retired Aug. 15 after serving since 1991. The term ends July 31, 2009.

Fitzpatrick is the chairman of the civil litigation practice group at Brennan, Steil & Basting, where he has worked for more than 20 years. He also serves on the Janesville Police and Fire Commission.

Fitzpatrick is president of the Rock County Bar Association and serves on the Wisconsin Equal Justice Fund Board of Directors and the UW-Rock County Foundation.

He lives in Janesville with his wife and two children.
