The Janesville School Board approves spending about $20,000 for the first year the district uses new staff development software, a cost that wasn't known when the administration recently recommended a staff development position.

Commissioner Tim Cullen says the same thing happened when the school board approved the "Preschool 4 Janesville" four-year-old kindergarten program. Commissioner Lori Stottler says she questions the timing, but the software is necessary to enhance the education system to give teachers and administrators tools and resources they need to succeed. She says the school district is a big government entity that needs those resources.

Stottler says this will put the recent teacher contract negotiations to bed.
