EDGERTON Edgerton's newest city council member hopes to provide a fresh set of eyes and ideas to city government.
Carrie A. Strahota, 34, of 6 Cherry St., has lived in Edgerton only two years, but she already feels like part of the community, she said.
“This is the first time I’ve ever owned a house, and I want to be a part of Edgerton, making everyone in Edgerton as happy as I am since I’ve lived there,” she said.
The city council chose Strahota from two applicants to replace Alderman Paul Davis in the third district. Davis resigned this month because he is moving out of the district.
Strahota will serve until spring 2009, when the position will be up for election.
She doesn’t have government experience, but she has been involved in local volunteer efforts, she said. She has helped plan a dog park in Milton and volunteered at Janesville AirFest.
Strahota and her husband, Tom, hail from the Madison area. She still works there as an information technology administrator at Zimbrick, a car dealership.
The city council voted 4-1 for Strahota after interviewing her Monday night. It interviewed the other candidate, David Maynard, 51, of 309 Dorow Ave., at its meeting July 7.
Maynard, a bus driver, is a lifelong Edgerton resident and wanted to be on the city council to improve the quality of life in his community, he said.
Strahota said she’d like to see the city bring more business to Edgerton, especially industrial business. The city should promote the Highway 51 corridor and its historic district, she said.
“I think I’m coming in with new ideas, and I think that’ll help out a lot,” she said.

Whatever... I just think it's unfortunate that anyone with a "huge stake in Edgerton" would choose to trash it at every turn on this website.

The amount of input Strahota has is set by the city charter and state law. Her vote as alderwoman will be equal to the other members of the council.

farmdude.....I think perhaps you best re-read my comment..I didn't say anything about a "townie". Maybe YOU are what's wrong with Edgerton, too much reading between the lines. If you think for one minute that the council did this for nothing other than political reasons you need to take off the rose colored glasses my friend.......besides, how do you know I don't have a huge stake in Edgerton...

Lydia - Your negativity is what's wrong with Edgerton. You're certainly not part of the "change" that you claim you want. Here the council picks an "outsider" over a "townie" (as you would call them) and you STILL can't bring yourself to give them kudos for that?!???!!!
I say, best wishes to Ms. Strahota, and the council made the right pick.

Why did they vote in "a fresh set of eyes"? Well, let's see.....council is getting guff because they don't want change, so I suppose this is a way to say "see, you're wrong, we do want change". However, let's see how much input Ms.Strahota really has. My guess, ZERO....it's just a move on councils part to shut up the squeaky wheels. After all, they only have to put up with her until spring....then the people of Edgerton can vote her off....
