Air conditioners sought for needy seniors

BELOIT — The Voluntary Action Center has launched its annual drive for new and working used air conditioners for Rock County seniors. Only two units are now available, and applicants will be placed on a waiting list.

Recipients must be low-income citizens who are at least age 60 and have a documented medical condition aggravated by high temperatures. Donations to the program may be in cash or appliances. Donated air conditioners should be 110-volt window units up to 10,000 BTUs. Because some eligible seniors live in buildings that provide a wall sleeve to house air conditioners, the center also will accept donations of larger, back-vented units designed for that purpose.
