Beloit Police are investigating after a truck driver reported diesel fuel was siphoned from his semi this week as it was parked in a lot near the interstate.

Sergeant Mark Franseen says this is the first siphoning case he's aware of, but with the price of fuel he expects more such cases. The driver noticed the fuel was missing when he returned to his truck after spending the night in a motel. He also saw some fuel spilled on the ground. Franseen says it appears a vehicle pulled up to the semi and started a pump on the tank and emptied one of the saddle tanks of 65 gallons of diesel fuel. The fuel is worth more than $300.

Police are stepping up patrols near the interstate to prevent similar thefts.
