— The Janesville American Legion baseball team fought rain and themselves at the Tri-State Tournament here Friday.

Rainstorms delayed the Legion’s 11 a.m. tournament-opener against the Madison Lakers to 5 p.m.

Once the action started, the Legion committed five errors en route to a 7-4 loss. In Game 2 the Legion played Normal, Ill., to a 7-7 tie before the game was halted after five innings due to darkness.

Madison wiped out Janeville’s 3-1 lead in the fourth inning, scoring three unearned runs for a 4-3 lead. Janesville tie it 4-4 in the fifth, but Madison bounced back with three runs on three hits an error in the seventh for the final outcome.

Brett Fredricks went the distance for Janesville, allowing seven runs—four earned—on eight hits. Fredricks walked six and notched five strikeouts.

Janesville will resume its game with Normal today at 11:30 a.m. and face Oconomowoc following the conclusion of Friday’s game.
