JANESVILLE Superintendent Tom Evert recommends that Jim LeMire be the new assistant principal at Edison Middle School.
LeMire has taught seventh and eighth grades at Franklin Middle School for the past nine years.
The school board is expected to take up the recommendation at its Tuesday, July 8, meeting. Evert recommends LeMire receive a salary of $85,112 for a 219-day contract.
LeMire would replace John Walczak, who recently was appointed principal of Jackson Elementary School. Walczak replaced Pat Johnson, who retired.
LeMire holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from Cardinal Stritch University. He coached the Parker High School boys basketball team for two years before resigning this spring.
LeMire was one of 47 applicants, who were from inside and outside the district. A committee interviewed five of those, according to a district news release. Evert and Edison Principal Steve Sperry reviewed lists of strengths and weaknesses from the interview committees before Evert made his choice.
The other finalists were Richard Spencer Dobson, a teacher at Aldrich Middle School in Beloit; Nate Perry, a social studies teacher at Craig High School; Randy Green, a health teacher at Franklin Middle School, and Kurt Krueger, a learning support teacher, also at Franklin.
