BELOIT — The Beloit Snappers were blanked on six hits in a 7-0 loss to the Cedar Rapids Kernels in Midwest League baseball here Monday.
The Kernels’ Esmerlin Jimenez (3-2) held the Snappers scoreless on four hits through the first seven innings. Cedar Rapids’ Leonardo Calderon and Tim Kiely each pitched an inning of relief and allowed one hit each to perserve the shutout.
Ryan Groth smacked a leadoff home run off Snappers’ starter David Bromberg in the first inning for the only run the Kernels would need. Bromberg (5-6) allowed six runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings to take the loss.
