— After a “Day of Compassion,” Love INC of Rock County is ready to host a kickoff ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, at the Lenan Learning Center, 4109 Capital Circle.

Love INC is a new ministry founded after nearly 50 churches and hundreds of volunteers hosted a “Day of Compassion” in 2004 and 2005.

The ministry will serve as a clearinghouse by receiving requests for help from churches, pastors, agencies, individuals and families. The organization has 22 partner churches from Beloit, Edgerton, Janesville and Milton.

Love INC allows churches to go outside of their walls to help in the community, according to the ministry’s Web site at www.loveinc-rock.org.

Love INC’s role will be to assess situations and refer people to church programs, volunteers and service agencies.

In the future, Love INC hopes to develop Gap Ministries to bridge the gap in unmet services, said Raejene Schlenke, executive director.

As an example, Schlenke said children going into foster care often don’t have much to call their own.

“We hope to supply these children with a duffle bag that will include items such as a blanket to let them know someone loves and cares about them,” Schlenke said.

For more information, call Schlenke at (608) 531-1880.
