Milton High’s up-and-down boys basketball team was back on top of its game in a Southern Lakes thriller Friday night.

John Ziegler came through down the stretch as the visiting Red Hawks (8-7, 4-3) rallied for a 51-49 victory over Elkhorn (11-5, 5-3), which was coming off a last-second win over state-rated East Troy.

This time, the Elks were the victims of the last-second heroics. After hitting a three-pointer to give Milton a 49-47 lead, Ziegler broke a 49-49 tie by sinking the game-winning shot with seven seconds left.

Elkhorn led 47-43 with 1:30 remaining. Mason Walters then was fouled while making a two-point shot and added the free throw to pull Milton within 47-46. On the Red Hawks’ next possession, Ziegler began his game-ending heroics.

Ziegler finished with 18 points to lead Milton, and Walters had 16. Elkhorn’s Eric Bryson took game honors with 22, and teammate Skyler O’Laughlin added 12.
