Bluebirds skate past Tomah
Janesville went to 10-2-2 overall and 7-2-1 in the Big Eight after forfeiting victories over Madison West and Beloit Memorial for an using an ineligible player.
The Janesville School District has appealed the eligibility case with the WIAA. If the appeal is upheld, the Bluebirds’ unbeaten record could be restored.
Meanwhile, the fourth-ranked Bluebirds’ concentration was on Tomah.
“We went out and we took care of business,” Janesville coach John Mauermann said. “We are just having fun and worrying about getting better.’’
Aaron Jacobson put Janesville on the board 53 seconds into the game on an assist from Derek Mussey.
“It’s nice to come right out of the shoot and score,” Mauermann said.
Ross Mauermann gave Janesville a 2-0 lead with his third short-handed goal of the season at 3:24. Joey Allen scored at 15:38 with assists from Aaron Jacobson and Bentle Geldard.
“Ross won a foot race to the puck,” Mauermann said. “Joey went down and flew to the net and got a nice pass from Aaron.’’
Michael scored Janesville’s last goal on a power play with assists from Mussey and Mauermann.
“It was one of the nicest power-play goals we’ve had this season,” Mauermann said.
