If the Milton High girls basketball team wasn’t in a foul mood before Thursday night’s critical Southern Lakes Conference game at first-place Delavan-Darien, it certainly was after.


The undefeated Comets made 36 of 45 free throws en route to a 74-64 victory.


Delavan-Darien, which improved to 7-0 in the conference and 14-0 overall, held off the Red Hawks by making 12 of 19 free throws in the final quarter.


Courtney Flood scored all of her 12 points from the line. She was 12 of 14 overall, including six of eight in the fourth quarter.


Kelly Supernaw led the Comets with 21 points. Alana Cesarz matched Flood with 12 points, while Mallory Epping had 11 for the state’s seventh-ranked Division 2 team.


Milton was whistled for 30 fouls, and starters April Mielke, Emily Arnold and Tasha Randall fouled out.


Freshman center Liz Eide led the Red Hawks (6-6, 3-4) with 14 points, while Randall and Mielke each finished with 12. Milton hit seven three-pointers and made all nine of its free throws.

Whitewater 50, Fort Atkinson 45—Second-place Whitewater (11-2, 5-1) led from the first basket to hold off visiting Fort Atkinson and stay within reach of unbeaten Delavan-Darien in the Southern Lakes.


Megan Theune led the Whippets with 18 points. Leah Harms added 11.


Morgan Wendlandt led the Black Hawks (4-10, 1-7) with 21 points, including three three-pointers.

Jessica Splittgerber added 11 points for Jefferson, which led 19-0 after one quarter.


Alyssa Duncan paced East Troy (1-12, 0-7) with 13 points.
