Edgerton High’s unbeaten boys basketball team took its place in the history books Thursday night.

The Crimson Tide pulled away from visiting Beloit Turner in the second half for a 73-45 victory that lifted the state’s third-ranked Division 2 team to 7-0 in the Rock Valley Conference and 12-0 for the season.

That’s the best start for Edgerton in modern history, surpassing the Crimson Tide’s 1952-53 Badger Conference championship team, which was 11-0 before losing 45-44 to Madison Edgewood on a free throw after the final horn.

Travis Towns hit two three-point goals in a 19-10 third quarter as Edgerton broke open a 33-25 game against Turner (3-7, 3-5). Towns had seven points in the period and 13 in the game.

Bryan Gregory and Derek Carrier were Edgerton’s game leaders with 26 and 16 points, respectively, as the Crimson Tide increased its Rock Valley lead over Orfordville Parkview and Evansville to two games in the loss column.

Jaron Bertelsen led Turner with 12 points.
