— The city of Milton has created a draft contract it might offer to retired police Chief Tom Gilland, but itís not talking to Gilland or the public about the terms, it announced in a news release Wednesday.

The city council discussed in closed session Tuesday terms of a contract should the Milton Police Commission decide to rehire Gilland.

Last week, the police commission announced itís considering rehiring Gilland but canít come to an agreement with him until 30 days after his Jan. 7 retirement.

ďThe city wishes to make clear that no communications regarding the contract terms have taken place between the city and Tom Gilland, nor has any guarantee been made by the police commission that they will rehire him,Ē the release said.

The police commission hasnít yet scheduled a meeting to discuss Gillandís potential return.

ďIf the police commission makes a decision to reappoint Tom Gilland, then and only then will the proposed contract terms be revealed, discussed and/or negotiated with him,Ē the release said.
