— A Janesville man threw a folding pocketknife at his wife and his neighbor and held the same knife against the throat of the coupleís roommate after consuming a liter of whiskey Tuesday night, according to Janesville police.

Police responded to 545 S. Main St. at 9:22 p.m. Tuesday after 911 received a hang-up call, Sgt. Brian Vaughn said.

Officers arrested Gene Hasel, 36, on charges of domestic endangering safety while armed, domestic criminal damage while armed and domestic disorderly conduct while armed.

Haselís wife tried calling 911 after her husband threw a knife at her while she was sitting on the couch. The knife landed near her and in the sofa cushion, Vaughn said.

Then Hasel held the knife against the throat of the coupleís roommate. When the coupleís upstairs neighbor went downstairs to see what was happening, Hasel threw the knife across the living room at him. The knife lodged in the wall about 2 feet from the man, Vaughn said.

Hasel was taken to Mercy Hospital for treatment.
