Evansville boys romp past Big Foot

Evansville High’s defense came to play Friday night, and the offense also did its job.


The combination gave the Blue Devils a 56-34 triumph over visiting Walworth Big Foot for their fifth straight Rock Valley boy’s basketball victory.


Evansville’s tough man-to-man defense kept the Chiefs sputtering, while the Blue Devils rolled to a 35-13 halftime lead as they improved to 5-2 in the conference and 7-4 overall.


Matt McElroy led Evansville with 23 points, and teammate Tommy Kremer added 11. A.J. Schaid paced Big Foot (4-8, 3-4) with eight.

n Turner 72, Brodhead 64—Aaron Jones scored 16 of his 22 points, including 9 of 10 free throws, in the fourth quarter to carry Beloit Turner to a Rock Valley victory at Brodhead.


Brodhead (4-7, 1-6) cut a 14-6 first-quarter deficit to 28-27 by halftime, but Turner (4-8, 3-4) pulled away in the second half. The Trojans made 16 of 22 free throws in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.


Kyle Treptow scored 20 points, while Jaron Bertelson and Mike Jacobs added 12 apiece, to pace Turner.


Andy Swain led Brodhead with 15 points. Ryan Miller scored 13, and Trenton Klein added 10.

n Palmyra-Eagle 46, Fall River 44—Chris McMillan’s coast-to-coast layup as time expired gave the Panthers (2-8) a nonconference win over visiting Fall River.


Chris Fauser’s two free throws lifted Fall River into a 44-44 tie with six seconds left. McMillan grabbed the ensuing inbounds pass and took it in for the game-winner.


Jared Domres led Palmyra-Eagle with 14 points, and McMillan finished with 11. Josh Corlette had a game-high 19 for Fall River.
