— The Janesville Bluebirds skated into enemy territory Friday night and emerged with their unbeaten streak intact.

Aaron Jacobson scored with under three minutes to play to lift Janesville’s high-school co-op team to a 3-3 nonconference tie with University School of Milwaukee.

The fourth-ranked Bluebirds (9-0-1) trailed 3-1 in the second period, but stormed back behind Zach Bayreuther’s shorthanded goal and Jacobson’s game-tying tally.

“Considering how badly we were outplayed in the first period, I was happy with the way we controlled play the last two periods, and in overtime,” Janesville coach John Mauermann said.

“I’ve learned to have patience with this team because I know at some point, they’re gonna come through and they did again tonight. Even after we tied the game, we had a couple of excellent scoring chances to win the game.”

Jacobson tied the game on an assist from Kaleb Eichman at 14:09 of the third. Eichman nearly won the game in the closing seconds of regulation.

“University School is still a quality program,” Mauermann said. “So coming out of here with a tie is a lot better than a loss.”
