Milton High’s girls basketball team played the spoiler’s role again Thursday night.


After previously knocking off Elkhorn, the Red Hawks took out defending champion Jefferson with a 52-42 triumph on the Eagles’ court.


With the Red Hawks’ help, Delavan-Darien (4-0) gained a two-game lead in the loss column over Jefferson and Elkhorn (both 3-2), two of the prime contenders. Meanwhile, Milton evened its conference record at 2-2.


Tasha Randall and April Mielke led Milton’s attack against Jefferson (7-3) with 19 and 17 points, respectively.


The Red Hawks had a 21-19 halftime lead, then wore down the Eagles in the final two quarters. They took a 36-29 lead into the last eight minutes as they boosted their season record to 5-4.


Sophomore guard Jessica Splittgerber paced Jefferson with 13 points.

Whitewater 48, East Troy 41—Whitewater (8-2, 3-1) used a big second quarter and a final spurt to slip past visiting East Troy and into second place in the Southern Lakes.


Courtney Trewyn came off the bench to score five or her game-high 14 points in a 17-9 second period that gave Whitewater a 21-17 halftime lead. She also scored five in the third and four in the fourth to help the Whippets fight off the upset-minded Trojans (1-9, 0-5).


East Troy had a two-point lead midway through the fourth quarter, but Trewyn scored off an assist from Leah Harms. Trewyn then hit some clutch free throws down the stretch to clinch the victory.


Harms and Megan Theune each had 12 points to back up Trewyn. Amber O’Connell led East Troy with 10.
