Clinton High did its part Thursday night, and so did the rest of the crowd atop the Rock Valley girls basketball standings.


Liz Althoff scored seven of her 14 points in the final quarter to help the host Cougars hold off defending champion Evansville, 38-33, and remain in a four-way tie for first place at 4-1.


Brodhead, Walworth Big Foot and Orfordville Parkview also notched victories to keep pace with the Cougars.


Clinton (5-3) had a 15-9 halftime lead over Evansville (4-6, 2-3), but the Cougars were up only 21-20 after three quarters.


Maggie Schultz matched Althoff’s 14-point total for the Cougars. Hailey McIntyre led Evansville with 12 points, including a 10-for-10 performance on free throws.

Parkview 65, Turner 17—The Vikings (7-3, 4-1) blew out Turner (0-9, 0-5) at Beloit to keep pace with the Rock Valley leaders.


Ashley Oldenburg scored 13 points to pace Parkview, which led 20-6 after the first quarter, 34-8 at halftime and 49-12 after three periods.

Big Foot 50, Edgerton 39—Big Foot rode Jordyn Courier’s 18 points and 15 rebounds to a victory over visiting Edgerton (1-10, 1-4).


The Chiefs overcame first-half problems as they pulled away from a 27-23 halftime edge with a 17-3 outburst in the third quarter to keep pace the Rock Valley leaders at 4-1.


Jenny Pietkauskis added 11 points for Big Foot, which improved to 8-2 overall. Freshman Meggie Schmidt led Edgerton with 16 points, including three three-point goals.

Brodhead 62, Palmyra-Eagle 35—Dana Lewis scored eight of her game-high 14 points in the first quarter to help Brodhead put in command of the host Panthers (1-8, 1-4) at 16-5.


Lewis and teammate Courtney Mielke each scored six points in a 15-6 third quarter that pulled the Cardinals (4-3, 4-1) away from a 31-21 halftime lead and kept them tied for the Rock Valley lead.


Kristen Ruchti added 11 points for Brodhead, and Kelly Bolli led Palmyra-Eagle with nine.
