— Think of it as the curtain going up on 150 shows.

From 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, the Beloit International Film Festival is holding a “reveal party” at Kutter Harley-Davidson, 3223 N. Pontiac Drive, Janesville.

The party will reveal the full schedule—along with special events—for the upcoming film festival, which runs from Thursday, Jan. 17, to Sunday, Jan. 20.

The film festival is in its third year and is growing in popularity. The New York Times listed it as an “alternative to Sun Dance.” The four-day event attracts film buffs from all over the upper Midwest.

“We’ve really become a regional event,” said Rod Beaudoin, the festival’s executive director.

Almost 150 features, documentaries and shorts will be shown at eight venues during the course of the four-day festival. New this year is a venue for family-friendly films.

This year’s reveal parties have been postponed because of last-minute additions to the film festival lineup. Along with Janesville’s party, the film festival also is hosting a reveal party tonight at the Beloit Inn.

Beaudoin recently confirmed that director, actor and producer David Zucker would appear at the festival and participate in a question-and-answer session after the screening of his comedy classic, “Airplane!”

It’s the first time the film festival has held a reveal party in Janesville. And it’s not surprising that film festival booster Joanna Kutter, the owner of Kutter Harley-Davidson, is hosting the party.

Kutter has been involved with the festival since its inception. For the first two years, Kutter, who is also an artist, was on the film selection committee. This year she was head of the festival’s fund-raising arm, “Cinema a la Carte.”

“It is so exciting to be a part of something new and creative in the community,” Kutter said.

Kutter’s business is in Janesville, but she grew up in Beloit, attended Beloit College and is part of that city’s artistic community.

“Our goal is to expand the audience of the film festival even more,” Kutter said.

Eventually, Kutter hopes that Janesville will be home to one of the festival’s venues.
