— A two-car crash killed a rural Janesville woman Sunday afternoon on Highway 26 just northeast of Janesville.

Deputy Coroner Chris Hawley pronounced Faye Snyder, 77, of 5200 N. Valleyview Drive, Janesville, dead at the scene, according to a news release from the Rock County Sheriff’s Department.

Rescue workers were dispatched to the accident at Highway 26 and Bingham Road at 1:57 p.m.

Several passersby were helping the injured when deputies arrived. Milton fire and EMS arrived and initiated CPR.

The four-lane highway was reduced to one lane in either direction for about 90 minutes.

Snyder was trying to turn south from westbound Bingham Road onto Highway 26 when she drove into the path of a northbound car, the sheriff’s department reported.

Noe Ayala, 33, of 1502 Highland Ave., Janesville, was driving the northbound car. Ayala was treated and released at Mercy Hospital in Janesville.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts, and airbags deployed in both cars.

Fog was not a factor in the crash, said Sgt. Jason Harding of the sheriff’s department.

The department does not anticipate issuing any charges or citations.
