Warhawks down North Central

— UW-Whitewater opened with a 21-2 run en route to defeating North Central of Naperville, Ill., 88-78, in nonconference men’s basketball here Wednesday.

The 17th-ranked Warhawks (9-2) led 36-12 and were up 40-22 at halftime.


North Central (6-5) got within to 61-52, but Whitewater went on a 10-1 run to regain control.


Whitewater’s Rob Perry scored 23 points, and Matt Goodwin added 21. Myles McKay had 12 for the Warhawks, and Janesville Craig High School graduate Josh King scored 10.


North Central’s Reid Barringer made seven three-point attempts in the second half and finished with 28 points.


Whitewater returns to Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Confernce action at 3 p.m. Saturday at UW-River Falls.
