Big Foot loss ends coach's career

Union Grove’s hot finish brought a disappointing finish to retiring Tim Collins’ career as Walworth Big Foot’s girls basketball coach.


The visiting Broncos jolted Big Foot High with a 21-12 fourth quarter Tuesday night and grabbed 58-53 victory in a WIAA Division 2 regional opener.


Big Foot (14-7) led 45-42 with just over four minutes left. The Broncos then turned it around with six points in 10 seconds.


Union Grove scored on a layup, then converted in-bounds steal into another layup. The Broncos got a third basket of another Big Foot turnover to suddenly gain a 48-45 lead, which they never relinquished.


Jordyn Courier had a 16-point second half and 23-point game for Big Foot.


Freshman guard Alyssa Thomas scored 25 points for Union Grove, including 14 in a 21-12 fourth quarter, during which she made six of eight free throws. Jacquie Servi added 15 points for the Broncos.


Union Grove (15-6) plays at Delavan-Darien (19-1) in Thursday night’s regional semifinals. The winner battles Whitewater (14-6) or Whitnall (16-5) on Saturday at Lake Geneva Badger for a berth in the Janesville Craig Sectional.

Whitnall 57, East Troy 45—The visiting Trojans (1-20) fell behind by 12 in he first quarter and could not recover in the Division 2 regional opener.


Amber O’Connell led East Troy with 13 points, and Alyssa Duncan added 12.


Whitnall (16-5) plays at Whitewater (16-4) in a regional semifinal game Thursday.
