Warhawk women move closer to title

OSHKOSH


UW-Whitewater rolled past UW-Oshkosh, 86-78, in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women’s basketball here Wednesday night.


The victory kept the No. 4-ranked Warhawks (22-2, 13-2) in a tie with UW-Eau Claire for the league lead with one regular-season game remaining.


The Warhawks can clinch at least a title tie by winning home Saturday in a 1 p.m. game against UW-River Falls.


Whitewater opened the second half against Oshkosh with a 12-4 run for a 55-35 lead. The Warhawks held a double-digit lead until less than two minutes remained.


The Warhawks’ Tiffany Morton took scoring honors with 20 points, while collecting 13 rebounds. Lindsey Buechner had 15 points and 10 rebounds, and teammate Kelsey Hendrickson added 14 points.


After the regular-season finale, the Warhawks will host a WIAC first-round tournament game at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
