Milton free throws drill Kenosha Bradford

Kenosha Bradford had more baskets than the Red Hawks, but that wasn’t about to stop Milton High in WIAA Division 1 regional boys basketball Tuesday night.


The Red Hawks struck back with free throws and earned a 49-38 victory over the host Red Devils in a semifinal game.


Ninth-seeded Milton (12-9) earned a date with top-seeded Verona (16-4) in Saturday’s regional title game at Verona. The winner advances to the Elkhorn Sectional.


The Red Hawks advanced by hitting 22 of 25 free throws (85 percent), including 17 of 20 in the fourth quarter when the desperate Red Devils (7-14) repeatedly sent Milton to the line.


Milton’s Brandon Knudtson hit all 11 of his fourth-quarter free throws and finished with 14 points. Mason Walters led the Red Hawks with a game-high 21 points, and teammate Desmond Pollard added 10.


Michael Holden led eighth-seeded Bradford with 13 points. Deon Franklin added 12.

Elkhorn 58, Wilmot 45—The Elks used a 24-point outburst in the second quarter to pull way for a Division 1 regional semifinal win.


Elkhorn (17-4) hosts Kenosha Tremper (10-11) in Saturday’s regional final game. The winner advances to the Elkhorn Sectional.


Max Findreng scored 14 points, Jake Gahart added 12, and Ross Olson had in 11 for the Elks, who led 38-19 at half.


Wes Brown and Shayne Dorn scored 10 points apiece to lead Wilmot (3-18).

Westosha 62, Beloit 47—The 11th-seeded Purple Knights led 28-27 lead at the half, but they were buried 22-7 in the third quarter as Westosha Central (13-8) rolled through the Division 1 regional semifinals.


Nate Vos scored six of his 11 points in the third quarter for No. 6 seed Westosha. Mike Koller scored a game-high 16 points for the Falcons, Michael Erdman added 14, and Austin Koeshall had 10.


Deon Lowery and Jahlil Smith scored 12 points apiece for Beloit (5-16).


Westosha (13-8) travels to Janesville Craig (16-5) for a regional final Saturday. The winner advances to the Elkhorn Sectional.

Stoughton 65, Burlington 51—Stoughton (11-10) left the Demons (8-13) behind in a 34-15 first half of a Division 1 regional semifinal game.


The Vikings hit five of their six three-point goals in the decisive first half as they advanced to a regional title game Saturday against second-seeded Badger (15-5) at Lake Geneva.


Eric Gerber led Stoughton with 16 points, followed by Malcolm Calbert with 13.
