Elkhorn's defense stops Delavan-Darien

— Elkhorn High’s boys basketball team brought out the defense again against Delavan-Darien.

After a 47-28 victory over the Comets in December, the Elks completed the season sweep and locked up second place Friday night with a 53-37 victory in a Southern Lakes Conference finale at Delavan.


Max Findreng and Eric Bryson led Elkhorn with 18 and 15 points, respectively. Aaron Logterman paced the Comets with 13.

n Evansville 52, Jefferson 50—Junior Andrew Keister used his football quarterback skills, tossing a key pass to Matt McElroy that led Evansville to a nonconference victory.


Keister passed a strike three-quarters of the court to McElroy, who layed in the winning basket with 3.5 seconds remaining. Jefferson missed a desperation shot for the win at the buzzer.


McElroy, the only Blue Devil to reach double figures, had scoring honors with 24 points.


Jefferson’s Nate Fossberg scored 14 points, Trevor Probst added 12 and Bryan Poredos chipped in 10 for Jefferson.

Williams Bay High School, the repeat champions in the Trailways South, withstood Rio’s fourth-quarter charge en route to a 53-50 victory in Trailways South boys basketball regular-season finale.


The Bulldogs (18-2, 15-1) led 45-39 after three quarters.


The Bulldogs’ Jack Slovick scored 14 points, teammates Andrew Martin and Damian Brillenthin added 13 and 11 points respectively.
