Mason Walters, a 6-5 junior forward, helped make it a grand Southern Lakes finale for Milton High’s boys basketball.


Walters scored 24 points as the Red Hawks, who will move to the Badger Conference next school year, closed their Southern Lakes era with a 66-47 victory at Jefferson.


The triumph assured Milton of a winning season at 11-9 and boosted the Red Hawks to 7-5 in the conference. They’ll tie Delavan-Darien (10-8, 7-4) for third place if the Comets lose at home tonight against Elkhorn (15-4, 8-3).


Walters ignited Milton with six points in the Red Hawks’ surge to 20-11 first-quarter lead over Jefferson (3-15, 0-12). After a 33-23 halftime lead, Walters had nine in a 17-9 third quarter that put the game out of reach.


Matt Drew backed up Walters with 11 points for Milton, including three of the Red Hawks’ seven three-point goals. Trevor Probst and Josh Alvarado led Jefferson with 14 and 10 points, respectively.

East Troy 58, Whitewater 39—East Troy more than doubled up the host Whippets in a 31-15 first half to put the finishing touches on a second straight championship in the Trojans’ final Southern Lake season.


The Trojans (18-2, 11-1), who move to the Rock Valley next school year, set the tone in a 12-4 quarter and put the game out of reach in a 19-11 second period.


Kyle Jones led East Troy with 16 points, and Alex Bondar added 12 for the state’s fourth-ranked Division 2 team. Miles Hookstead paced Whitewater (10-10, 4-8) with nine points.

Badger 64, Fort Atkinson 48—Braden Tice drilled seven three-pointers as Lakeshore champion Lake Geneva Badger (15-5, 11-1) broke a two-game losing streak with a nonconference win over the visiting Blackhawks (7-12).


Tice scored 21 points, all on his three-point shots. He had four of them in an 18-18 third quarter as the Badgers retained their 11-point halftime advantage.


Josh Meyerhofer 13 points to pace Fort Atkinson, which was playing its third game in four days and will close its regular season at home tonight against McFarland.
