Clinton High’s girls basketball team needed a strong finish Thursday night to keep Edgerton from pulling off its second Rock Valley upset of the week.


The fourth-place Cougars (10-7, 7-5) used a 19-10 advantage in the fourth quarter to lock up a 55-42 victory over the Crimson Tide (4-14, 4-8) after trailing 23-22 at halftime.


Maggie Schultz scored six of her game-high 17 points for Clinton in a 14-9 third quarter that gave the Cougars a 36-32 lead. Liz Althoff made six of nine free throws and scored 10 of her 12 points for Clinton in the decisive final period.


Bri Cox had an eight-point fourth quarter in leading Edgerton with 12. Meggie Schmidt scored eight of her 10 in the first quarter for the Tide, which knocked off third-place Walworth Big Foot on Tuesday.

Evansville 43, Palmyra-Eagle 36—The visiting Blue Devils pulled away in the fourth quarter for a victory that boosted them to 6-6 in the Rock Valley.


Hailey McIntyre scored 14 points, Alicia Kopp added 12, and Karmin Arnold had 10 to lead a balanced Evansville attack.


The Blue Devils (8-10) were two after three quarters and outscored the Panthers (1-17, 1-11) 11-6 in the fourth.


Liz Madecky paced the Panthers with 11 points.
