Madison Memorial High School’s Big Eight boys basketball champions were their dominating selves against Tuesday night.


The second-ranked Spartans (17-2, 14-1), who clinched a fifth straight undisputed title last Saturday, roared away from a 29-21 halftime lead to overpower Madison West, 70-50, on the Regents’ court.


Devonte Maymon led the Spartans with 16 points, while younger brother Jeronne added 12. Michael Horton scored 15 for West (9-9, 8-6) before fouling out.

The visiting Cardinals suffered their eighth loss in nine games as they fell to 5-9 in the Big Eight and 7-11 overall after being an early-season contender.


Augustine Avelleyra backed up Mason with 15 points for the Purgolders.
