Whitewater women roll past Stout

UW-Whitewater outscored UW-Stout, 83-72, in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women’s basketball here Saturday.


The Warhawks (20-1, 11-1), ranked third in the D3hoops.com poll, remained a half-game behind UW-Eau Claire in the conference.


Whitewater rolled to a 35-29 halftime lead over third-place Stout (14-7, 8-4). The Warhawks secured their sixth straight victory with a 16-5 run for a 62-45 lead with nine minutes left in the game.


Tiffany Morton led Whitewater with 22 points to equal her career high and added 15 rebounds. Lindsey Buechner and Heidi Sonntag added 16 points apiece for the Warhawks.


Whitewater and Stout combined for 45 turnovers and 56 fouls that produced 80 free throws.


The Warhawks host UW-Platteville at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

n Illinois College 77, Beloit 69—At Beloit, Angie Meehan’s school-record 200th career three-point basket was not enough to carry the Beloit women’s basketball team.


Lauren Napier scored 24 points and Rachel Macon added 17 as visiting Illinois College (10-10, 6-7) pulled away for the Midwest Conference victory at Flood Arena.


Meehan, a Janesville Parker graduate, led the Buccaneers with 20 points. She hit 5 of 13 three point shots to push her career total to 200 made three-point baskets.


Christine Brown scored 17 points for Beloit (12-8, 8-5) and added a game-high 15 rebounds.
