Clinton resident running for Assembly
A Clinton resident and an Iraq War veteran announced Friday that he will challenge Chuck Benedict, D-Beloit, for the 45th Assembly District.
Mike Hahn, 25, of 7308 E. County J, is a student at UW-Madison and will graduate in May with degrees in history and political science.
He grew up in rural Clinton and was in the Wisconsin Army National Guard, serving all six years with the 1158th Transportation Company of Beloit.
Hahn has interned at the state Capitol and has worked on numerous state and local campaigns since 2000.
On Tuesday, Benedict, a retired physician, announced he is seeking a third term in the state legislature.
Benedict, who ran unopposed in 2004, has championed a number of health initiatives over the last four years.
Hahn believes that less is more when it comes to government.
“Rep. Benedict has introduced legislation time and again that only increases government’s role in our lives or imposes an ever higher tax burden on the people of Wisconsin,” said Hahn in a news release.
Hahn said his priorities include, “lowering the tax burden on businesses and individuals, creating jobs in our community and finding creative, market-based solutions to reduce the costs of health care.”
The 45th Assembly District includes Beloit; Janesville wards 5, 6 and 12; the villages of Clinton and Turtle; and Turtle, Clinton, Bradford, La Prairie, Harmony, Johnstown and Richmond townships.
