Brodhead High’s girls basketball team got a leg up on the competition Thursday night.


The Cardinals overpowered visiting Clinton, 52-28, in Rock Valley makeup game and grabbed a half-game lead over idle Orfordville Parkview (7-1) with an 8-1 conference record.


Brodhead left Clinton (5-4) behind in a 14-3 first quarter and led 26-8 at halftime.


Dana Lewis led Brodhead with 12 points, and Liz Althoff had 11 for Clinton.

Lakeside 44, Lodi 38—Lakeside Lutheran (5-10, 2-6) took control in the two middle quarters to gain a Capitol North victiory over the visiting Blue Devils (2-12, 1-6).


Alyssa Allister scored five of her team-high 12 points in a 15-8 second period that gave the Warriors a 25-19 halftime lead. They extended their advantage to 37-25 in the third quarter.


Lodi’s Mary Beth Mabis took scoring honors with 20 points.

Williams Bay 48, Deerfield 39—Megan Hovestol led the way with 22 points as Williams Bay continued its last-season climb up the Trailways South standings.


The visiting Bulldogs overcame a 20-19 halftime deficit with a 15-5 advantage in the third quarter and jumped to fifth place in the conference at 4-5 as they evened their season record at 6-6.


Lauren Hobbs and Courtney Hovestol added 12 and 11 points, respectively, while Casey Schmoeger scored 12 for Deerfield (10-5, 7-4).
