The Janesville Bluebirds won three games in one day.

After the WIAA overturned an earlier decision that Janesville’s high school co-op hockey team would have to forfeit two games, the Bluebirds went out and blanked the Madison Eastside Lakers, 8-0, in Big Eight Conference play Thursday night.

Tommy Tralmer scored two goals and David Jacobson notched his third shutout of the season as the Bluebirds improved to 13-0-2 and 8-0-1 in the conference.

“It was a great night overall,” Janesville coach John Mauermann. “We told the team about the decision that was handed down before the game, and they went out and really played with a purpose. You could sense their excitement knowing we got those two games back.

“We played four lines the entire game, and all four lines contributed in the scoring.”

Janesville peppered Laker goalie Tony Ales early and often. The Bluebirds scored three goals in the first period and finished with 43 shots on goal. Grant Jahns started the scoring with a goal at 4:10 of the first, and Joe Allen and Ross Mauermann also tallied in the opening period.

Tralmer, a Janesville Craig senior, scored both of his goals to open the second as the Bluebirds pushed the lead to 5-0.

Sly Flynn, Bentley Geldard and Tyler Parks also scored for the Bluebirds, while Jacobson finished with 15 saves in recording the shutout.

“Our defensemen—Derek Mussey, Michael Valentine and Jarod Hilmer—did a great job of moving the puck all game,” coach Mauermann said. “When we can get contributions from everybody that skates, we’re pretty good team. That was the case tonight.”

Janesville is at Milwaukee Marquette in a nonconference game on Saturday night before hosting Madison Memorial at 8 p.m. Monday night in a Big Eight makeup game at the Janesville Ice Skating Center.
