Janesville's City Council learned more about low-income families Monday.

Neighborhood Services Director Jennifer Petruzzello and Community Action Executive Director Lisa Furseth provided the information. Council member Tom McDonald asked if there was an unmet need in the community. He used the example of the homeless shelter for single men that travels between Janesville churches. Petruzzello told the council that homeless teens are currently finding a place to go. She says a group is working to help shelter the teens.

Council member Russ Steeber says payday loan stores are a big concern for him. He says they often prey on the most vulnerable citizens, and asked if there was a way for the city council to regulate those stores. The city attorney says those stores cannot be regulated by the city.
