Elkhorn hires new clerk
ELKHORN The city council approved Monday hiring an Oconomowoc woman to replace retiring city clerk Nancy Jacobson.
Darlene Igl will start Jan. 5, working with Jacobson until her retirement March 1. The position includes a $49,700 annual salary and two weeks of vacation.
Igl has worked for the state Government Accountability Board as an elections specialist since 2004, leading the training of local clerks on the statewide voter registration system. She previously served as the village clerk/treasurer in Chenequa in Waukesha County for about 10 years.
City Administrator Sam Tapson said the city received 32 applications for the clerk job and interviewed six candidates once and two candidates twice before selecting Igl.
Jacobson, 62, said she's retiring because "it's that time."
"I just want to get home and take care of my family," she said. "This kind of job keeps you pretty busy."
Jacobson said she's looking forward to spending time with her husband, children and two granddaughters as well as taking up painting. Jacobson, who previously wrote for the Elkhorn Independent newspaper, said she soon might pursue freelance writing.
Jacobson has served as city clerk for nearly 11 years.
