ELKHORN — An Illinois man has been charged with two counts of armed robbery for his involvement in two gas station holdups in Walworth County earlier this week.

Jonathan G. Massie, 20, of Hinsdale, Ill., and Clayton C. Bone, 19, of La Grange Park, Ill., are accused of entering the Handi Mart, N3465 County H, at 9:50 p.m. Tuesday wearing ski masks and armed with shotguns.

A witness told the Walworth County Sheriff's Office the men fled on foot.

Within minutes, Lake Geneva police spotted a vehicle matching the description of a vehicle used in the holdup Monday night at Fontana Corner Market, 286 Valley View Drive.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspects led officers on a chase that ended at Schofield Road on the south shore of Lake Como, where the men got out of the vehicle and ran west on the frozen lake.

During the foot pursuit, Bone shot himself with a 12-gauge shotgun. He died at the scene, authorities said.

Massie appeared in Walworth County Court on Thursday and bond was set at $100,000 cash. He remains in the Walworth County Jail.
