Craig opens Big Eight swimming with victory
Janesville Craig High School left Beloit Memorial in its wake, 131-39, in a Big Eight Conference boys swimming dual meet opener at Craig on Friday.
“The 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay times were extremely fast for this time of year,” Craig coach Brian Kitzman said.
The Cougars won the 200 medley in 1 minute, 51.87 seconds with Nick Hazekamp, Alex Loftus, Sam Waddell and Nick Strub. Craig posted a 3:57.10 in the 400 free relay with Strub, Loftus, Hazekamp and Matt Enloe.
Hazekamp won the 100 freestyle in 50.63 and the 100 backstroke in 56.97. Loftus won the 200 individual medley in 2:11.59 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.42.
“Loftus’s times were his best,” Kitzman said. “He is on his way to a great season.’’
Craig will host the Cougar Relays at 10 a.m. today. Janesville Parker, Marquette University High School, Elkhorn and Brookfield Academy will participate.

n East 116, Parker 54—The Vikings had good swims, but the host Purgolders were just that much better.
Marcus Genrich won the 100 breaststroke in 1 minute, 9.07 seconds for the Vikings lone victory. Parker fell to 1-1 in Big Eight dual meets.
“We swam very well,” Parker coach Eric Rhodes said. “Everybody had one or two best times. It’s just that East swam better.’’
The Vikings will participate in the Cougar Relays at Janesville Craig at 10 a.m. today.
