UW-Rock County men and women move past UW-Fox Valley

JANESVILLE — UW-Rock County men’s basketball team had to scramble to squeeze past UW-Fox Valley, 98-97, in Wisconsin Collegiate Conference play here Wednesday.

The Rattlers held an 18-point, 88-70, lead with 10 minutes to play, but Fox Valley fought back to tie it, 93-93, with 90 seconds remaining.

With 13 seconds remaining, and Fox Valley holding a 97-96 lead, Mario Selph dribbled the length of the floor and dished to Fred Steward whose layup with five seconds remaining sealed the Rattlers’ victory.

Fox Valley made 13 three-point goals, including three in the final four minutes.

Stewart finished with 22 points, Selph added 21 points and Corey Kramer chipped in 12 points to lift UW-Rock to 6-3 overall.

UW-Rock will host UW-Barron at 1 p.m. this Saturday.

Rattler women roll

UW-Rock County women’s basketball team hammered UW-Fox Valley, 88-30, in Wisconsin Collgiate Conference play at UW-Rock on Wednesday.

Tiffany Draeving scored 18 points, Kaylyn Sherrod and Brianna Harold added 16 points apiece.

UW-Rock coach Scott Lee praised Harold’s play.

“Bri had an awesome game,” Lee said. “She was controlling both ends of the floor.’’

The UW-Rock women will host Madison Area Technical College in a nonconference game next Tuesday.
