JANESVILLE — Two Janesville School Board members appointed last summer have taken out papers to run for school board this spring. They are Peter D. Severson and Gregory Ardrey.

Voters will fill five seats in the April 7 elections. Monday was the first day that candidates could circulate nomination petitions.

Still undecided are two incumbents—Lori Stottler and the current board president, DuWayne Severson.

The two Seversons are not related.

A fifth board member, Debra Kolste, said earlier that she would not run. Her third term ends in April.

Any district resident age 18 or older may run for one of the nine board seats. The first step is to file a declaration of candidacy with assistant board clerk Nancy Hewes, who can be found during business hours at the Educational Services Center, 527 S. Franklin St., or at (608) 743-5056.

Candidates must collect at least 100 valid signatures and file those by Tuesday, Jan. 6. The election is April 7.

Ardrey, 25 Sauk Court, is a senior manager for Alliant Energy.

Peter Severson, 1817 Wesley Ave., works in computer information technology for the Wisconsin state court system.

The board appointed Ardrey and Severson to fill the seats of Amy Rashkin and Dennis Vechinsky, who resigned last spring before their terms ended.

State law allows appointed members to serve only until the following election.

The three top vote getters April 7 will serve for three years. The next two will serve one-year terms.
