Elkhorn rumbles past East Troy

Eric Bryson did about everything Elkhorn High needed to open the 2008 football season with a victory.


Bryson completed 12 of 18 passes for 256 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 45 more yards, including a 29-yard touchdown, to lead the Elks to a 52-15 nonconference rout of visiting East Troy on Friday night.


Six different players caught passes from Bryson. Jake Gahart kicked seven extra points and a 19-yard field goal and caught a 44-yard scoring pass from Bryson. Elkhorn led, 38-7, at halftime.


East Troy rushed for 297 yards, led by Jordan Jacobs who had 90 yards on 16 carries.

n McFarland 21, Palmyra-Eagle 6—Nick Schuepbach rushed 21 times for 169 yards and two touchdowns to lead McFarland past visiting Palmyra-Eagle in nonconference games.


Schuepbach scored on runs of 51 and three yards.


Palmyra-Eagle was led by quarterback Chris McMillan, who completed 13 of 20 passes for 112 yards. Luke Berglund caught five of those for 61 yards.

n Jefferson 26, Lakeside 19—Jefferson’s 341-yard ground game was topped off by two long touchdown runs to carry the Eagles past Lakeside’s defending Capitol North champions in a nonference opener at Lake Mills.


Steve Winter’s 60-yard scoring run secured Jefferson’s lead for good at 20-10 with 1:38 left in the third quarter.

n Edgerton 48, Belleville/Albany 24—Bryan Gregory threw for four touchdowns and scored another as Edgerton rallied to win a nonconferenc opener at Belleville.


Belleville/Albany led 21-7 after the first quarter and 24-21 at halftime, but Edgerton took control with a 27-0 second half.


Gregory completed 13 of 24 passes for 308 yards. Kyle Johnson had 20 rushing attempts for 153 yards to lead the Crimson Tide’s 207-yard ground game.

n Evansville 39, Byron, Ill. 21—Andrew Keister threw four touchdown to spark Evansville’s victory in a nonconference opener at Byron.


Keister threw 9- and 51-yard scoring passes to Cody Thompson and Taylor Koch in the first quarter to put the Blue Devils ahead for good.


Evansville led only 21-14 at halftime, but the Blue Devils took control with a touchdown on their first possesion of the second got. Koch took a 4-yard pass from Keister for second TD.
