Driver cited for hitting man in wheelchair

WHITEWATER — Roshelle O. Sims, 23, of Whitewater was issued a citation for failure to yield to a pedestrian at an uncontrolled intersection Thursday after the car she was driving hit a man while crossing the street in his wheelchair Tuesday.

Michael Chaloupka, 23, a recent UW-Whitewater graduate originally from Waukesha, was crossing Main Street at Whiton Street in the crosswalk about 4:30 p.m. when he was struck by the vehicle.

Chaloupka was taken to Fort Memorial Hospital in Fort Atkinson and later was flown to University Hospital, Madison, where he was listed in critical condition today.
