— The 2008 season got off to a good start for Janesville Parker High School’s boys soccer team.

Grant Jahns scored twice and David Jacobson added a goal and an assist to lead the Vikings to a 4-1 nonconference win over Cambridge/Deerfield here Thursday night.

Parker scored three times in the first half to open a 3-0 lead and coasted the rest of the way.

“We just wanted to work on attacking the whole game, and that’s we did,” Parker coach Andy Holmes said. “Our defensive line was solid, and after a great practice yesterday (Wednesday), we came out and played like we practiced.

“Grant did an outstanding job of knowing what he was supposed to do on the field, and Peter (Nicoloff) played well for his game as a goalie.”

Edison Davila started the scoring for Parker with an unassisted goal at the 18-minute before Jahns and Jacobson scored three minutes apart late in the first half.

Jahns got the only goal of the second half on an assist from Ryan Porter at 62 minutes.

Nicoloff, who has never played soccer before this year, finished with eight saves in picking up the win.

Parker plays a nonconference game at Jefferson at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday.
