Flood debris to be cleared in Beloit
Podcast Episode
BELOIT A popular walking bridge across the Rock River in Beloit should be re-opening soon.
The train trestle bridge, near the dam, has been shut down for several weeks because flood debris has collected along its supports.
Beloit City Engineer, Dave Botts, says while the bridge is structurally sound, they had to consider liability issues in making the decision to close it to walking traffic.
Botts says, while the river levels are now low enough to remove the debris, the contractor retained to do the work is currently busy elsewhere. He says it will be a couple weeks before the work can begin.
The bridge is part of a walking path system in Beloit and around the Rock River.

I can imagine the liability issues, just check out these photos of people fishing debris the August 2007 flooding for an idea of what the worry is:

But, that said and shown, it's silly to wait this long to re-open it. People need to be responsible for their actions and I think the liability concern hardly warrants leaving this bridge closed for over 2 months.
