— A Chicago woman is in critical condition at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn after nearly drowning in Geneva Lake, police said.

Lake Geneva police were called to the public beach on Wrigley Drive at 4:48 p.m. Wednesday. A 51-year-old Chicago woman was unresponsive and floating face up, just off shore. Lake Geneva Water Safety Patrol lifeguards and a passerby were able to pull her to shore and start CPR.

The Lake Geneva Police Department declined to give the woman’s name.

That is not true - the lifeguard(s) did pull the lady out of the water, performed CPR with the aid of a nurse who happened to be there as well, and did what they were supposed to do - and there are witnesses to support that.

Having a situation like that happen is terrible enough for all involved, unsupported rumors should not be spread.

This isnt entirely true. Two bystanders actually dragged the woman out of the water and performed the CPR until the ambulance arrived as the lifeguards ran around frantic not knowing what to do... The water safety patrol did not arrive until after the woman was being tended to by the EMT's
